Google search trends have consistently highlighted "Royalty Free Music" as a high-frequency search term for over half a decade. This enduring interest underscores the evergreen potential of the sound and media market, especially in our digital age. Dive deeper, and the numbers are even more compelling. According to Next Big Sound, a staggering 90.7% of artists remain undiscovered. While only 0.2% reach the coveted 'megastar' status, a vast majority are still waiting in the wings, eager for their spotlight. Furthermore, data from the Music Market Manifesto reveals that 82% of these artists are unsigned, 33% don't sell albums at shows, and a significant 24% have mailing lists with fewer than 50 subscribers.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Musicians
ASCAP and BMI Organization has total over 935,000 composers, songwriters and music publishers, but the actual size of undiscovered independent musicians are more than this number.
filmmaker
Considering the multitude of smaller festivals globally and films not submitted to these events, we can reasonably deduce tens of thousands of indie films are produced yearly. Factoring in that a filmmaker might create a movie every few years, a ballpark figure for active independent filmmakers worldwide could range from 100,000 to 300,000.
